A
ATEX
ATEX is the French abbreviation of ATmosphères EXplosives, stands for the ATEX directives of the European Union and deals with the topic of explosion protection. On the one hand, there is the ATEX Product Directive 2014/34/EU, which covers equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. On the other hand, the ATEX Operational Directive 1999/92/EC defines the minimum requirement for improving the health protection as well as the safety of workers who could be endangered by explosive atmospheres.

Armoured face conveyor (AFC) gearbox
Armoured face conveyor gearboxes are used underground for coal mining.
Axial alternating strain
Our hermetically sealed AXIFLEX piston contains an integrated, elastically deformable expansion jacket suitable for high-frequency continuous operation up to 30 alternating expansions per second. Here, the axial movement is along the linear axis.
C
CE identification
CE stands for "Conformité Européene" or European Conformity. The CE marking proves that the product conforms to the applicable requirements imposed on the manufacturer by the European Community. The responsible person thereby shows that the product complies with EU regulations and that a conformity assessment procedure has been carried out.
Cylinder/piston unit
The cylinder/piston unit HYDROWATT system includes a hermetically sealed piston that has an integrated, elastically deformable expansion jacket.
D
Descaling
Descaling removes impurities from iron oxide on the surface of metals. One of our applications is steel descaling with high-pressure water in hot rolling mills.
Descaling pump
Despite good filtration and settling tanks, scale residues remain in the process water. These are problematic for many conventional high-pressure pumps, as the sealing sleeves, which are subject to friction wear, are subjected to severe stress. Thanks to their hermetically sealed design, our AXIFLEX pistons are insensitive to the residual scale.
Duplex steel
Duplex steel is a steel with a two-phase structure consisting of a ferrite matrix with islands of austenite, where the volume fraction of ferritic and austenitic structure is equal. It belongs to the group of stainless and acid-resistant steels.
Dust Suppression
The dust-suppression system is designed for underground usage. There, the mobile unit is used for high-pressure spraying of the cutting track of shearer drums and for cooling the Armoured face conveyor (AFC) gearboxes. The former represents effective dust control with water.
E
Eccentric drive
Our compact piston pump with directly coupled eccentric drive requires no intermediate gear and delivers a low-pulsation volume flow. Pressures of up to 400 bar are possible.
Eccentric shaft
Our HYDROWATT AXIFLEX pump technology impresses with a short eccentric drive shaft mounted on both sides, so that no multiple crankshaft is required. Furthermore it convinces with an integrated pressure lubrication of the drive.
Elastomer
An elastomer is a dimensionally stable, yet elastically deformable plastic. It can deform elastically under tensile or compressive load and then return to its original shape.
Elastomeric sleeve
In our piston pump, the displacement chamber above the piston head is sealed with an elastomeric sleeve, as a result of which the piston-shaped diaphragm is firmly connected to the cylinder unit at the open end. As the stroke movement of the piston adapts to the elastic expansion, there is no sealing gap. Via a lubricant layer, the elastomeric sleeve is supported against the cylinder wall and the conveying medium and lubricant do not come into contact with each other.
Emulsion pump system
Our emulsion pump system is used in the pressure supply of the shields in coal mining. The high-quality pumping system has a low flow pulsation and is very economical in operation.
F
Flow Pulse
The minimal flow pulse of our high-pressure pump reduces the load and wear on the downstream hydraulic components of the system.
H
HALF
HALF stands for High Abrasive Loaded Fluids and means fluids with high abrasion. Abrasive fluids cause increased wear in the fluid system as surfaces erode due to physical interactions. The erosion caused by the simple flow over a surface or by the abrasive particles. These, in turn, disrupt the interaction of internal components in a pump. Abrasive fluids can be, for example, calcium carbonate in the paper industry or high-pressure cleaning with abrasive fluids.
HFA-Fluid
HFA fluids, or high water content fluids, are hydraulic fluids that combine the fire protection properties of water with the lubrication and corrosion protection of an additive concentrate. The water content is 80-90 percent. HFA concentrates are used at moderate pressure in underground mining.
HFC-Fluid
HFC hydraulic fluids have a water content of 35-50 percent, making them resistant to ignition and offering high fire protection. Thanks to their low flammability, they are suitable for all industrial sectors where the risk of fire is high. This is because even at temperatures above 600° Celsius, the hydraulic fluid should not start to burn. It is mandatory in underground mining.
Hermetic
Hermetic refers to something that is so tightly sealed that nothing can get in or out.

Hot rolling mill
In a hot rolling mill, the steel is heated to temperatures between 780 and 1260 degrees Celsius before rolling. For aluminum, the temperature is between 250 and 500 degrees Celsius. Thanks to the high temperatures, the material can be formed well.
Hydraulic systems
We develop and produce complete hydraulic systems for applications in industry and mining.
Hydraulics
Hydraulics is a type of transmission and is used to transfer power, energy or force/torque from the pump to the piston or hydraulic motor. The power is transmitted by means of hydraulic fluid.
Hydroforming
In hydroforming, metallic tubes or hollow bodies are formed in a closed mold by means of internal pressure. This process is used in the automotive industry, for example.
Hydromechanical descaling
In hydromechanical descaling, the scale layer is broken up by means of a high-pressure water jet so that the scale shrinks due to spontaneous cooling. The water, which evaporates abruptly in the process, acts like small explosions, blasting off the scale, which is finally washed away by the remaining water. Thus, in hydromechanical descaling, cooling, crushing and evaporation effects interact and reinforce each other. Compared to mechanical processing, this process is a more effective and economical solution.
L
Longwall mining
In mining, longwall mining refers to any type of support that is used to keep the slope free of post-crushing rock.
M
Maintenance concept
After a short training period, you will be able to carry out the normal maintenance work on our products yourself, unerringly and sustainably. This is made possible by a simple maintenance concept, which we will gladly present to you as a short training course when you purchase a pump or system.
Methanol
Methanol is a clear, colorless, flammable and highly volatile liquid with an alcoholic odor. It can be mixed with many organic solvents and in any ratio with water.
Monoethylene Glycol
Mono-ethylene glycol is colorless at room temperature and a viscous liquid. When exposed to air, it decomposes at the boiling point, releasing formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and hydrogen, among other things. It is used, for example, as an antifreeze or corrosion inhibitor in coolants.
O
Oscillating stroke movement
In our AXIFLEX pistons, the elastomeric sleeve adapts to the oscillating stroke movements, i.e. the oscillating up and down movements, of the piston head.
P
PLC control
PLC is the abbreviation for Programmable Logic Controller. PLC is used to control and regulate machines and plants in the industrial environment.
Plunger pump
In the plunger pump, the piston rod is also the piston. Its immersion in the working chamber displaces the volume.
R
Radial design
"Radial" refers to something that runs in the direction of the radius, starts from a center point, or runs toward it. We make use of this process in our high-pressure pumps, which are suitable for replacing existing pump systems thanks to their compact radial design.
Radial piston pumps
In the radial piston pump, the working pistons are arranged radially and perpendicular to the drive shaft. The radial piston pump is an element of fluid technology and can convey HFA or HFC, for example. Our specialty is the development and manufacture of new types of hermetically sealed radial piston pumps, which are designed for pressures up to 415 bar as standard.
S
Sealing gap
Sealing gap refers to the gap between two spaces with different pressure levels. Either the gap must be such that there is no pressure flow and thus no leakage, or gap seals must be used.
Shearer drum
Shearer drums are used in mining for cutting extraction.
Shield extension
Shield support is a hydraulic system for roof support in underground coal mining. The shield support protects the face against the pressure of the otherwise collapsing roof. In addition, the shield support moves an integrated chain conveyor with a coal plow or shearer loader working on it through suitable coal seams in the progressive mining process.
Slope end
In mining, slope end refers to a layer of rock deposited above a seam or the rock above a deposit.
Steel descaling
In hot rolling mills that form steel, descaling is an important step to ensure that the end products are not contaminated by rolled-in iron oxide.
Super duplex steel
Thanks to its high chromium, nickel and molybdenum content, super duplex steel is predestined for demanding applications.
